at the age of two i was adopted by two of the best gifts i’ve ever been given. though i’ve been blessed with two of the most perfect parents one could ask, and a family that has been as loving and inviting as possible, there’s always been a void in my heart - a common issue among adoptees.

fifteen years ago i was contacted by my half brother on my birth father’s side who left a message. calling him back was one of the most anxious phone calls i’ve ever made.

seven years ago my father died and we found a baby book with information about my birth parents and their families. i was able to track down my birth mother. calling her was probably the most anxious phone call i’ve ever made. and while my relationship with her continues to grow, she told me of another half brother - a son of hers.

this image of two peaks receiving the warm, early morning light in death valley national park is a representation of the budding relationship i have with each of my brothers.
