Snowy Morning at Bear Lake

from 99.00

i’m not sure if there’s a better feeling for this guy than walking through a few inches of fresh snow in a national park before sunrise when there’s no one around you, all while snow flurries continue to fall around you. and so it was on this morning at bear lake - one of rocky mountain national park’s busiest locations, that i’d happened to hit it before the masses arrived.

the cool blue light was due to the dissipating blue hour light as the sun attempted to rise. the haze was a result of low-hanging clouds and additional snow in the air. if you look close, you can see the slush in the lake as it had not yet frozen over.

after snapping a number of photos at this location, and making my way around the lake looking for other photographic opportunities, the sound of voices talking began to overtake the silence. and when i arrived back at the main vantage point to this special location, i noticed a man getting on his knees in the snow as his parents held their cell phones up proudly. she said yes!
